Questions, answered
The things South African business owners ask us most. Don't see your question? Get in touch and we'll happily walk you through it.
How long does it take to register a company in South Africa?
With M&J handling your registration, a private company is typically registered with the CIPC within 5 to 10 business days — from name reservation to receiving your registration certificate. Timelines depend on CIPC processing and how complete your documentation is.
What does company registration cost?
CIPC charges a small statutory fee for name reservation and company registration. Our professional fees depend on the scope of what you need. We offer a free initial consultation where we assess your requirements and give you a transparent quote with no hidden fees.
Do you register my company for tax with SARS?
Yes. New companies are automatically issued an income tax number on registration. We activate SARS eFiling and register you for VAT, PAYE, UIF and SDL where applicable, and set up your tax compliance from the start.
When do I need to register for VAT?
VAT registration is compulsory once your taxable turnover exceeds R1 million in any 12-month period. You may register voluntarily once turnover passes R50 000. We advise on the right time to register and handle the process with SARS.
Can you help with B-BBEE?
Yes. We assess your B-BBEE scorecard, issue EME/QSE affidavits, support formal verification and help structure ownership, skills development and enterprise & supplier development to improve your level and win contracts.
Which accounting and payroll software do you support?
We work with Sage (Pastel), QuickBooks, Xero, Odoo and Zoho Books — and we will recommend and set up the right fit for your business and budget.
Do you work with businesses outside Johannesburg?
Absolutely. We serve clients across South Africa with both in-person and remote support, so you get the same service whether you are in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban or anywhere else.
How do your fees and payments work?
We offer flexible arrangements including monthly retainers, project-based billing and phased payment plans. We will find a structure that suits your budget and the stage your business is at.
